Fishing Report – Los Vaqueros Reservoir – 4/25/2011

General Conditions

Striped bass fishing continues to be your best bet.

The water temperature is now between 59 and 60 degrees depending on weather conditions and the water level is still at 50%.

Due to construction activity near the dam, the restriction area has been extended. Orange buoys now mark the closed area. There is still plenty of open water to fish.

Trout

Trout fishing is slow to fair. We see some trout every day but there is no one hot spot. Anglers take a few fish trolling as well as catching a few fish on bait. Nightcrawlers are the best trout bait this time of year. You can float them with a marshmallow, inflate them or fish them under a bobber.

Fishing Report – Los Vaqueros Reservoir – 4/19/2011

General Conditions

Fishing continued about the same as last week with striped bass continuing to be your best bet. A few big catfish, trout and largemouth bass also provided some action.

The water temperature is now 62.5 degrees and water level is at 50%.

Trout

Trout fishing is slow to fair. We see some trout every day but it takes work. There is no one hot spot. Anglers take a few fish trolling as well as a few fish on bait. Two anglers fishing at the tip of the south cove took 5 trout from 1.5lbs to 3.5lbs. They were using nightcrawlers. No trout plants are scheduled but we hope to plant some trout at the end of April.

Fishing Report – Los Vaqueros Reservoir – 4/12/2011

General Conditions

Striped bass continue to be your best bet with a few big catfish, trout and largemouth bass providing some action. The big news was a 34.16lb striper caught by David Christeson trolling a rattle trap.

The water temperature is now 61.5 degrees and water level is currently at 50%.

The reservoir is now stabilized so the shore will be drying out. We recommend you wear some old shoes or boots for a couple more weeks. One fishing pier is open and has been a good spot to catch stripers. We have one pier closed due to the low water. With the sun out the shoreline is drying quickly.
